MORE ABOUT THIS PIECE
This buffalo lance is 75" long. The spear tip is an authentic reproduction of a Sioux blade from the 1800s and is hand-forged iron. The tip is attached to the shaft with screws (hidden) and period-correct annealed (heat-treated) wire, as seen on spears from the period. The lance has a swath of genuine buffalo fur at the top and skunk fur at the bottom. In between are sewn and twisted leather fringes, roughly hand-painted with authentic green pigment of the same type the Indians used. Period-accurate 100% red wool is sewn on to the middle of the shaft. Minimal decorations include a wool strip, coup feathers (with gypsum smeared on the tips) and a hank of horsehair. The bottom of the shaft has been whittled to a rough point. It is a beautiful and authentic reproduction of a Plains Indian buffalo lance.
